WORKFLOW GUIDE · REVIEWED 5 OCTOBER 2026
Prepare an IAMF file for YouTube.
Use local inspection to find concrete issues early. Finish with a test of the final packaged file in your actual delivery workflow.
1. Start with a known source
Keep the original export and the encoder settings. Identify the source channel order, intended layout, codec, and mix. A multichannel file is not automatically an IAMF file, and changing its extension cannot make it one.
Use material you own or are authorized to deliver. This website does not encode, package, repair, or upload your media.
2. Inspect the IAMF descriptors
Select your export in the validator. Review every parsed configuration, Audio Element, and Mix Presentation. Treat declared channel layout and loudness as metadata: they do not prove correct channel content or replace measurements.
Unknown fields and partial analysis are useful boundaries. Keep them in the report and investigate using a compatible native tool before relying on the export.
3. Review the guidance in its stated scope
YouTube’s recommended encoding settings identify a Content Manager partner audience and include MP4 packaging advice. The general preflight treats this as reference guidance, not a universal acceptance test.
The formatting specifications identify music label and distributor partners. They describe Eclipsa Audio PCM and Opus in MP4 and recommend 48 kHz. An unlisted codec is not proof of rejection.
Select the separate music partner preset only when that delivery context applies. The music video specifications are scoped to Content ID partners; their Eclipsa limits should not be generalized to every upload.
4. Package with video, then check again
A standalone IAMF bitstream can expose audio metadata but is not a finished video deliverable. Use a tool and version that explicitly preserve IAMF structures while packaging your intended video and audio tracks.
Consult the iamf-tools external encoding and packaging documentation, and verify the resulting file. This release does not provide an independently tested packaging command template.
Do not assume a generic stream-copy command preserves IAMF groups. Do not replace IAMF with AAC as a “fix,” invent loudness values, or remove edit lists without checking their role in timing. Reinspect the final MP4 and review synchronization separately.
5. Test processing and playback
With an appropriate account and authorized material, upload a test through your real delivery workflow. Wait for processing, inspect the result, and listen on the devices that matter to you. Record the date, export version, processing outcome, and playback setup.
A successful local metadata check does not predict every platform or device outcome. No actual YouTube upload or device acceptance test has been performed by this tool.
Keep the evidence
Export JSON for structured evidence or TXT for a readable summary. Both are generated from the same local report; filenames are omitted by default.
